Archie's New Look

I've been a fan of Archie comics for many, many years now, so I was very excited when I picked up one of the new comic books with the new drawing style they're trying out.

I like it! Perhaps because it's new, and Archie rarely has a lot of new stuff (for instance, this particular comic had about 2 new stories that I hadn't read before). Some notes about the new story line done in this more realistic style:

1. Veronica is dating a a-hole named Nick St.Clair. I personally always though Archie was enough of a dick as it was, seeing as he was always two-timing Betty and Veronica and never appreciating Betty enough. Anyhow, Nick is a "bad boy."

2. Betty and Veronica look more real and have cooler clothes, but still remain unrealistically mature-looking 16-year-olds.

3. And speaking of unrealistically mature-looking 16-year-olds, Archie is ripped. I mean, looking at the first picture you wouldn't have thought he was packing some Rambo-esq muscles, would you? It's all a little silly. Traditionally, Archie is more on the slim side.

OMG WTF!
Seriously though - Archie sure looked a lot less realistic and more cartoony....which is what I think I liked about Archie comics. I liked the ridiculous stories along with the crazy gestures, and now it's as if they're trying to reach kids with a much more mature tone. Although, nowadays I think that kids are being taught to grow up more quickly, but I think the new Archie comics look no good. I'm not dissing the art, but as a comic - this is not. It's graphic art supposedly geared at adolescents, and all I have to say to that is: fuck that. Archie - you were cooler when I was younger! :(
